The first half of 2025 has been busy here at the Rescue...

In March of 2025, we took in Willow, an emaciated Mustang whose family had to give her up due to financial and other reasons. Willow has thrived in our care. Check out her photos under the "Our Horses" tab to see how far she has come with her health. She has gained well over 100 lbs. and has a shiny, soft-colored Buckskin coat. Her personality also shines
We've added two new horses to our rescue in 2024!

The Halfway to Heaven family would like to introduce our newest additions...
Jackpot
Butterscotch

Jackpot is a seven-year-old (2024) Pinto Mustang gelding from the Diamond HMA in Nevada. He was captured as a three-year-old and adopted by his first owner the following year. Since then, he has been passed around multiple times to numerous trainers who physically abused him. While we won't go into the details, the abuse was sometimes horrific. When we saw Jackpot posted for free on Facebook, we knew he was at high risk of heading down the slaughter pipeline. Through generous donations from our incredible supporters, we were able to have Jackpot vetted, vaccinated and a Coggins test drawn for transportation. He arrived here at the end of June 2024. We've seen progress with our training methods and look forward to a bright future for Jackpot.

Butterscotch is a four-year-old Sorrel with a flaxen mane and tail, gelding from Oregon's Sheepshead/Heath Creek HMA. He came to us from the Stroud, Oklahoma, kill pen. He was an unnamed, unwanted Mustang. We will never understand how someone could send him there. When we saw him, we knew we had to save him. Butterscotch came to us via a private transporter on a freezing cold January night. Although he had been with an adopter for over a year and a half, he was terrified of humans. He has proven to be a brilliant horse. He thrives on his Positive Reinforcement training and begs to be trained. He has come such a long way. It's hard to get away from him. He follows us everywhere like a sweet little puppy dog. In 2025, he will likely be started under saddle.
